About Greg Loudon: Your Expert Beer Guide

Hello, I’m Greg Loudon, and I’m delighted to share my passion for beer with you. Located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I wear several beer-related hats: I’m a Certified Cicerone®, a Certified Beer Judge, and a dedicated Homebrewer. Professionally, I’m the Brewery Sales Manager at Prairie Dog Brewing. My journey in the world of beer has led me to explore local craft breweries, international favorites, and the finer details of a wide range of beer styles, ingredients, and processes. It’s my pleasure to extend my knowledge and enthusiasm for quality beer to all who share this interest.

My Philosophy: Beer Is for Everyone

I wholeheartedly believe that beer is a beverage meant for everyone of legal drinking age to enjoy. Beer should not be shrouded in exclusivity or hidden behind barriers, be they related to physical, intellectual, gender, race, creed, language, or anything else. Craft beer should not be perceived as something you need to “get,” and I’m on a mission to challenge the notion that certain levels of knowledge or experience are required to appreciate it fully. In my travels, I’ve witnessed far too many individuals feeling excluded from the world of beer due to snobbish attitudes, exclusive language, or their own preconceived notions about what beer is and who it’s meant for. My goal is to dismantle these barriers and make the world of beer accessible to as many people as possible.

What’s a Certified Cicerone®?

Certified Cicerone® is an internationally recognized accreditation for proficient beer professionals. Similar to a Sommelier for wine, this certification demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of beer, from its production to its various styles and flavors. It also showcases essential tasting skills related to beer. In practical terms, being a Certified Cicerone® means that I’m well-equipped to discuss beer knowledgeably, making your beer journey a more enlightening and enjoyable one.

What’s a Beer Judge?

The Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) is an international volunteer organization dedicated to certifying beer judges and establishing style guidelines. As a Certified Beer Judge, I am qualified to evaluate beers in BJCP Sanctioned Competitions. These competitions assess beers against well-defined guidelines and award points based on criteria such as stylistic accuracy, technical merit, and overall drinkability. My role as a Beer Judge ensures that the beers you encounter meet the highest standards and expectations.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experiences, and passion for beer with you. Whether you’re a seasoned beer aficionado or just beginning your beer journey, I’m here to make your beer exploration a fulfilling and enjoyable one. Cheers!
